Flashbacks
Flashback
Realize I’m not dreaming
Phone really is ringing
It’s baby brother
That means one thing
The police are involved
Have been/ will soon be called
Flashback
Someone put fabric softener in my laundry
Benadryl dreams mean
Allergies and intersectionality
WGS 490
Feminist methodologies
Won’t see the fatigue of my travels
Stranger to each world
They say I don’t even talk the same no more
Flashback
4 minutes he put me on hold
Comes back
Events unfold
This time he says, it’s really not his fault
Flashback
Reminded that everything done to her
Already been done to me
Walking across stage one more time
Won’t erase the felony that brings us to this point
But which one?
The murder that stole both our hearts
Or the one that keeps him from feeding his babies
Maybe if I get one more diploma…
No such thing as superwoman
I’m just hoping this world doesn’t crash in on me
Again
Flashback
Bibliographies are documents from hell
Mindless, mind-numbing changes tracked
Auntie’s back
Done finished her bid
The kids just kinda raise themselves
We manage
Plenty more aunts around
Flashback
Line disconnected
Doze for a second
Baby brother rings one more time
I love you
Always means
Talk to you next time
The police are called
Flashback
I know she’s been drinking
Still
She’s thinking ’bout how proud she is
And if calling me “Dr.” will ease her pain in any way
I’ll stay even though they make me feel invisible
Seminars and emotional scars all run together now
Flashback
